Medieval festivals in Croatia

Rapska fjera takes over the walled town of Rab on the same three days every July, the feasts of St James, St Anne and St Christopher, reviving a holiday the town decreed in 1364 to thank the king who freed it from Venice. Expect coin-striking in the lanes, a fishermen’s village on the beach, a crossbow tournament and fireworks over the harbour, all in peak season, so book beds early. On the first weekend of September the Sajam u srednjovjekovnom Šibeniku, a srednjovjekovni sajam on the riva below Šibenik’s cathedral, re-fights a naval battle along the waterfront after dark. Revived recently after a pause, it is smaller than it was, so go for the setting rather than the scale.
