Medieval festivals in Latvia

1 medieval festivals in Latvia with dates for 2026–2027 — where they happen, when, and how to choose.

Honesty first: the dated festival that once filled the castle park at Cēsis each June is not currently announced. Cēsis Castle Medieval Days is our listing for what does run, the costumed programme the Livonian Order’s fortress puts on from May to the end of September: castle folk in period dress in the bailey on summer weekends, craft days in the garden in July and a Hanseatic market during the town festival. The ruin is the best preserved in Latvia; its garrison blew up part of it in 1577 rather than hand it to Ivan the Terrible. Cēsis is about an hour and three-quarters by train from Riga. Check the castle’s site for dated events before you go.

Cēsis Castle Medieval Days (formerly Cēsis Medieval Festival)

    Cēsis, Latvia

Cēsis Castle, the Livonian Order's mightiest fortress and Latvia's best-preserved castle ruin, runs a costumed 'medieval season' from May to September with craft days in the castle garden, a Hanseatic market during the July city festival and period-dressed castle folk on summer weekends. A standalone annual Cēsis Medieval Festival, the successor of the Baltic Medieval Festival first held here in 2001, could not be verified as still running in 2026, so this listing is marked unverified.
