Královské stříbření Kutné Hory has been staged since 1992 by the association Stříbrná Kutná Hora together with the town and the Czech Museum of Silver. It recreates a visit by King Wenceslas IV and his court to the town at the start of the fifteenth century, when Kutná Hora’s silver mines and the royal mint at the Italian Court (Vlašský dvůr) made it the second city of the Bohemian kingdom. The 32nd edition took place on 20–21 June 2026 under the motto ‘The Queen celebrates her birthday’, marking 650 years since the birth of Sophia of Bavaria, Wenceslas’s second wife.
The festival follows a fixed script. On Saturday morning at 10:00 the king, queen and court set out from the Italian Court in a ceremonial procession through the historic centre to the Cathedral of St Barbara, followed by a parade of townspeople in Gothic dress. The main festival ground is Breüerovy sady, the park below the Italian Court, where the royal court holds its celebration: mounted knights’ tournaments, historical fencing groups, period music and dance, jugglers, falconers, craft stalls and plays and competitions for children run from 10:00 until 23:00 on Saturday, with an evening programme after dark, and from 10:00 to 18:00 on Sunday. A ‘silver mass’ is celebrated in St Barbara’s on the Sunday.
Tickets are sold online through GoOut and at the gate. In 2026 a Saturday all-day ticket cost 300 Kč (children aged 6–14 and over-70s 150 Kč, family ticket 800 Kč), a Saturday evening ticket from 20:00 cost 120 Kč, and Sunday cost 150 Kč (children 100 Kč, family 450 Kč); children under six enter free. Visitors can hire a Gothic costume on site for a supplement of 100–150 Kč, and many locals attend in their own period dress.
Kutná Hora is about 70 km east of Prague. Direct trains from Prague main station take roughly an hour to Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží, from where a local shuttle train or bus continues to Kutná Hora město station near the historic centre. The festival ground is a short walk from both St Barbara’s and the Italian Court, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
